I joined IAF’s Architecture in the Community (AIC) committee in May 2013 and have found it to be a rewarding opportunity to increase appreciation of the significant roles architecture and historic preservation play in our community. From walking tours to lecture series to continuing education classes, AIC offers a variety of constantly evolving programs that enrich the lives of Iowans.

One project I have especially enjoyed was developing AIC’s new “Taste of Iowa Architecture” program highlighting food-related events and businesses at architecturally-significant sites across Iowa. With locations such as farmers markets held at historic courthouses, this initiative joins the best of Iowa food and architecture. As a Dietetics student with a passion for historic buildings, I have found this project to be an especially rewarding way to promote awareness of architectural treasures in communities across Iowa.
