Adventures in Architecture Summer Day Camp

Date: July 19th – 23rd
Time: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM Monday through Friday
Location: Des Moines Central Campus, 1800 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50309
Ages: Students entering 7th or 8th grade in the fall of 2021
Tuition: Free for all students up to a maximum of 25

Do you know students with a curiosity into how buildings are designed, or maybe even how they stand up?

This summer, once again,  students have the opportunity to explore their interest in buildings and architecture through Iowa Architectural Foundation’s free summer camp, a collaborative effort between IAF and Des Moines Public Schools. Adventures in Architecture Camp offers students in grades 7th – 8th a hands-on design experience, providing valuable insights into the role architects and designer play in our communities. Led by professional architects and designers, the camp will engage students in the creative design thinking and making processes as students work on real world design problems in team and individual settings.  Students will learn about the tools and technology architects use to solve design problems, like 3D printing, virtual reality, computer modeling, and hand drawing while developing their own problem-solving skills. Field trips throughout the week will immerse students in real life architecture studios and project sites. Adventures in Architecture Camp offers a meaningful opportunity for students to explore their interests in architecture while gaining real life experience from esteemed professionals.
