Designed by HLKB Architects in 2006, the Center’s concept was established by seven Iowa educational institutions, who identified the need for courses, corporate training and certification programs in downtown, with access for working adults. A highly transparent exterior skin serves to activate the building from Gateway Park’s pedestrian-oriented environment. The building incorporates traditional and tiered classrooms. Designed with large floor plates to provide highly efficient and flexible classroom space, allowing it to meet the needs of a changing curriculum. Inside, but visible from the outside, is conceptual artist, Sol LeWitt’s enormous swirl-whirl mural, painted in 2007. The building was acquired by the University of Iowa in 2008.
