Built in 1992 for the Principal Financial Group, the building was designed by Helmut Jahn of Chicago. The design is meant to resolve the conflicting city street grids. The 4.4 acre exterior plaza was designed by Peter Walker and Partners of California. The mist foundation, designed by Tom Mee of Cornell University, has 233 nozzles. The building includes a sculpture designed by Maya Lin called “A Shift in the Stream.”
