Celebrate 10 years of Eat. Drink. Architecture. in Des Moines! This year’s event will start at Full Court Press’ newest venue, Ken’s, a speakeasy in the lower level of the Iowa Tap Room. Fortified by food and drink, you will then set out on your architecture tour through the East Des Moines Industrial Historic District, crossing the River on the Red Bridge to the neighborhood where Fort Des Moines was initially laid out. Your second food/drink stop is Hessen Haus, the old world German bier hall in the historic Rock Island Depot complex. After a taste of what they have to offer, the tour will head towards the beautifully restored Polk County Courthouse, catching some of Des Moines’ earliest surviving skyscrapers. Your second stop is upstairs at the Royal Mile, after which the group will head east through the Court Avenue Entertainment District and along the Principal Riverwalk to view the Capital City’s Beaux Arts wonders. The tour will return to Ken’s for a sweet treat to end the day.
Participants will have 4 separate starting times, so no delays. Departure times will be at 12:00 pm, 12:30 pm, 1:00 pm or 1:30 pm. Please select your preferred tour time when you register on Eventbrite.
Each stop will feature appetizers, beer samples and conversation with the tour volunteers. You will get a chance to sample and find out more about superb Maytag cheeses at Ken’s. Along the tour route, you’ll have fun socializing, while enjoying a guided walking tour of the architecture in downtown Des Moines. Tickets are $40 and must be purchased in advance.
