Tuesday, April 12th6:30 PM DES MOINES CENTRAL LIBRARY

Talk & Tour begins in Pioneer Hi-Bred Int’l, Inc. Room, Meeting Room #2, 1000 Grand Avenue. Join IAF in learning about the design and construction of the Des Moines Central Library, by minimalist architect David Chipperfield.  Former staff from HLKB Architecture will discuss the design of the building and the construction process with a tour of the building to follow.  Parking is available on the street, in the lot across from VOYA or in the library’s underground parking area.  Those parking at the library must exit by 8:00 pm.   Register

 

Tuesday, April 19th6:30 PM DES MOINES CATHOLIC PASTORAL CENTER

Join IAF to learn more about Mies Van der Rohe, a pioneer of modern architecture, who designed the steel and glass building at 601 Grand Avenue.  The Talk & Tour will be held at the building.  Stephen Stimmel, AIA,  project architect with Brooks Borg and Skiles Architecture Engineering, and architectural historian Jennifer James, will present on the architect, the history of the building and current renovation efforts.  Parking is available on the street or in one of the nearby parking ramps. Thursday, April 28th 6:30 PM – DES MOINES ART CENTER

Join IAF at the Des Moines Art Center for the unique opportunity to see the works of three renowned, 20th century architects at one location.  The Talk & Tour is sponsored in partnership with the Art Center and museum docents will host a tour of the building and discuss the history and design of the works of Eliel Saarinen, I. M. Pei and Richard Meier.  The tour begins in the Art Center lobby, 4700 Grand Avenue.  Parking is available on the east and west sides of the facility. Register
