April is Architecture Month!

April 8

Focus on Stone – Architecture Month Tour & Lecture in Des Moines
This year’s event focuses on the beauty and permanence of stone as a building material. Join IAF to learn more about the history of stone masonry in Iowa, the art of stone carving and stone quarried in Iowa and its application on Iowa buildings. Includes a tour of Rowat Cut Stone & Marble at 9:30 AM, led by owner Teresa Van Vleet-Danos, and a lecture to follow at 10:30 AM at Iowa State Bar Association’s auditorium, at 625 E Court Avenue. Lecture speakers are Ben Mayer, Stone Carver, and Tina Rhodes, Architectural Technician. The event is free and open to the public. Please make your reservation after March 15 on Eventbrite so we know the number attending (no fee).

April 22

Eat.Drink.Architecture | Des Moines  – A tradition in Des Moines, Eat.Drink.Architecture. is a fundraiser for the Foundation that combines a progressive food and drink crawl with architectural walking tours of downtown Des Moines. What could be better than craft beer, good food and architecture? Sponsored by Jeff Bruning and Full Court Press restaurants, this year’s event will feature the Iowa Tap Room, El Bait Shoppe and Royal Mile. There will be two start times, with one half starting at noon and the other at 12:30 PM. The cost is $40 per person. Space is limited! Tickets will be posted after March 15 on Eventbrite.

April 29

Eat.Drink.Architecture | Cedar Rapids

Eat.Drink.Architecture will be held for the first time in Cedar Rapids from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 29. The fundraiser was planned to debut in Cedar Rapids in September 2016, but had to be rescheduled due to fall flooding. E.D.A. C.R.  will kick off at Lion Bridge Brewing Company. Tours through the Czech Village/ New Bohemia Main Street District will be led by Mark Stoffer Hunter with The History Center, Jennifer Pruden with Main Street, and Chris Wand with Primus Construction. Along the route, participants will sample brews and bites from three additional bars and/or restaurants in the district.
