Architecture on the Move Walking Tours of Downtown Des moines

IAF will offer live Architecture on the Move downtown Des Moines walking tours the months May – October, 2024 (October time and departure TBD). The tours provide an opportunity for local residents and visitors to appreciate the architectural treasures of Iowa’s capital city. Sign-in starts at 5 PM, inside the atrium at Capital Square. Tours take off at 5:30 PM and are led by architects who volunteer for IAF. Details are on Eventbrite.

Eat. Drink. Architecture.  — Drake neighborhood edition

This combination pub crawl and architectural walking tour of the Drake neighborhood in Des Moines will begin at the University Library Cafe, continue to Varsity Theater, and end at Lucky Horse. Sponsored by Jeff Bruning and Full Court Press, each stop features food samples, drinks, and conversation. The event will provide four separate starting times (10:00, 10:30, 11:00, & 11:30AM). Tickets are $40. Proceeds fund IAF programming. DEFINING MODERN: MASTERS OF MID-CENTURY FURNITURE & DESIGN

Iowa Architectural Foundation (IAF) is collaborating with Knoll, Saxton and Drake University on a signature educational event that you won’t want to miss!  Iowa is home to many architectural gems of the Mid-Century Modern design movement, including several on the Drake University campus. IAF’s Architecture Month event will be held in Meredith Hall, designed by famed architect Mies van der Rohe in 1965. Have your morning coffee while you enjoy two richly-illustrated presentations, accompanied by a display of original Knoll furniture classics by master designers including Florence Knoll, Eero Saarinen, Harry Bertoia, Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer. Afterwards, take part in guided architectural walking tours of Drake’s campus, focusing on the Modernist legacy.

Eat. Drink. Architecture.  April 20, 2019, starts in the east village, Des moines

This progressive food, drink, and architectural walking tour of downtown Des Moines begins at the Iowa Taproom, continuing to Truman’s, Des Moines’ new Kansas City-style pizza tavern featuring KC sports memorabilia, then on to the Royal Mile, and returns to the Iowa Taproom. Each stop features appetizers, beer samples, and conversation, with dessert at the final stop. The 2019 event will provide four separate starting times.  Departures will be at 12:00 pm, 12:30 pm, 1:00 pm or 1:30 pm.
