There are multiple volunteer opportunities to help the Iowa Architectural Foundation promote awareness and appreciation of architecture and design. Volunteers can serve on the Board of Trustees, board or community committees, or pick-and-choose events or activities that are tailored to individual schedules. For architect interns and architects, many of IAF’s volunteer opportunities qualify for IDP or AIA/CES.
IAF welcomes your interest, input, and contribution. Please browse the many opportunities and contact IAF about becoming a volunteer today!
Architecture in the Schools
The Architecture in the Schools Committee (AIS) is charged with extending IAF’s mission to children. It does this through a number of annual programs including the Architecture by Children (ABC) drawing contest, the “Snapshot Iowa” photography contest, and a crafts event at ArtFest Midwest in Des Moines. Architecture in the Community
The Architecture in the Community Committee (AIC) is charged with extending IAF’s mission to the adult public through annual programs such as the summer walking tours, Architectural Month Lecture Series, community education courses, and special events. The committee also works with the Architecture in the Schools Committee (AIS) to provide children’s walking tours. Click here to view AIC volunteer opportunities.
Community Design Program
The Community Design Program (CDP) assists communities by providing a very open and public decision-making process that brings civic groups, elected officials, and concerned citizens together with design professionals to visualize solutions for community betterment. These groups come together for a charrette based on the project scope agreed upon between the Iowa Architectural Foundation and the individual community.
