ArchiTreasures Launch at Capital Square

On Wednesday night, September 22 from 8 – 9 PM, Iowa Architectural Foundation (IAF) will launch our new series of short-format videos – ArchiTreasures – at a pop-up event in the Atrium at Capital Square! The videos are funded by BRAVO Greater Des Moines and their governmental and community partners. These artfully created videos take you into the interiors of six amazing buildings you would rarely have access to, showcasing creative stories, histories, design features, colors, styles, textures and details. The videos include US Bank’s Art Deco building; the Temple for the Performing Arts; American Republic (AEG); the restored Polk County Courthouse courtrooms; the catwalks and dome of the State Capitol and the Drake Municipal Observatory.

Our hope is that IAF’s ArchiTreasures will create a mystique, more enthusiasm, and a deeper appreciation of our state’s architectural riches. Our goal, over time, is to keep adding to this collection and build an archive by which to remember some of Iowa’s finest and most interesting architectural treasures. After the initial launch, you will be able to watch and share these wonderful architectural snippets (albeit from a smaller screen) on YouTube, Facebook and other social media. They will also be grouped together and seen as a program for schools or retirement communities.

The ArchiTreasures project included two full days of shoots at the various sites, with a team composed of videographer Bruce James Bales, video assistant, John Baker, new IAF Trustee Linh Huynh, Ben Brown, and Executive Director Claudia Cackler.
